What is web 2.0?
It is a maturity of understanding of the available technologies and a subscription to the idea of the web-as-app-platform. I think Tim O'Reilly put it quite well in 2005...

Reply:Web 2.0 is more a buzzword then anything else... it's about fashion, not technology. There is no 'standard' behind the word, but it sounds good.

Web 2.0 is a way of defining any web site which uses a 'rich client' interface on the browser without recurring to applets, plugins ... ecc.

All the technology where already there, javascript, DOM compliant browsers, XMLHttpRequest, CSS 2.1 etc... Now they have put a fashionable label upon it. It's marketing, but the fact remain, web application need now a rich-client interface to be competitive on the market.
Reply:So what is Web 2.0? Simply put, Web 2.0 is a perceived transition of the web to web applications. Web 2.0 is the next generation of technology solutions where interactive content is the norm. There is no agreement on exactly what Web 2.0 means, depending on who you are speaking with, you may receive different explanations. At it's heart, Web 2.0 is about the maturity of the Web and businesses that are thriving online. While many refer to Web 2.0 as companies that employ powerful web technologies, the key components of the new web are said to include: the web as a platform, collaboration, and syndication.
