What is Web 2.0 and how do I use it to drive traffic?

Web 2.0 is any website where users control most of the content.

Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gather, Hubpages, Squidoo and so on.

There are a number of ways to get traffic from these sites. Your strategy depends on what website you're using. For instance with YouTube you would create an informative and interesting video that mentions your website link during and/or at the end of the video.

You also want to include buttons on your website or blog for people to easily bookmark your website in social bookmarking sites such as Del.icio.us, Furl, etc.

You can also put a "Digg This" button on your site for people to easily submit your blog post to Digg.com and get votes for it, bringing more visitors.

Stumbleupon is another website that allows visitors to vote on your content. The more people who give it a "thumbs up", the more traffic you'll get from Stumbleupon.

With social sharing websites like Squidoo or Hubpages, you would create an interesting "lens" for Squidoo or "Hub" for Hubpages. You want it to be full of valuable, useful information. Adding pictures and videos makes it more popular.

If you use the right keywords in the title of your lens or hubpage, it can get ranked in the search engines pretty easily, bringing free traffic. You then funnel that traffic over to your website by mentioning it on your lens/hubpage.

Like someone else mentioned, Twitter is another good one. It's helpful not only for getting traffic, but building a relationship with people as well.

Same thing with Facebook. You want to be making friends with like minded people who are interested in what you have to offer, and keep them updated on what's going on with your business (without being salesey or promotional) Instead, you create Facebook pages and/or groups and regularly add useful tips, videos, etc. for them.

Include a link to your website, and if they are interested in what you have to offer after seeing your free tips, they will visit your site. (and be even more likely to buy from you because you've already established a relationship with them and proven you are trustworthy.)

Hey Shiraz,

A perfect example of Web 2.0 is MySpace. When MySpace first came out, people set up their pages to look like websites. They then gave out their url to MySpace and drove traffic to their MySpace pages.

Today we have Facebook, and others. Facebook is great because it allows more functionality than MySpace. You can list your blog or website feeds and each time your update your page(s), your friends on Facebook instantly know about it. This helps in driving traffic.

Now I use Facebook and Twitter, Twitter is awesome because it is called microblogging and you can do this from your cellphone.

People are using Twitter to drive traffic to...check it out here is my twitter...http://www.twitter.com/offbeatnews
Reply:Social networking sites such as myspace, facebook, and digg.com. You Tube is also Web 2.0. You can use it to drive traffic by having friends on those sites and by providing content and information that is worth talking about. If you have good stuff, it will be popular. If you ahve junk it wont. No one will tell other people about the spam you sent them.
Reply:Web 2.0 are social networking sites, social marketing sites, social bookmarks so with one word, all online community where you can make connection with others around the globe.
