I see Web 2.0 whenever i read an aticle on the internet but i am just wondering if it is real or just something made up in the minds of internet journalists.
Is Web 2.0 a real thing or is it just in the imagination of internet users and really a myth.?
Web 2.0 is a myth-ish. It's sort of a real thing, sort of not.
The idea behind Web 2.0 is websites that use a technology called AJAX, and also have a clean/sharp look. Any website matching these requirements can be considered "Web 2.0".
AJAX was a term coined for a combination of 3 technologies - JavaScript, server calls, and XML. Combining these 3 technologies allows pages to have quicker responses, because the entire webpage isn't reloaded everytime. Instead, only basic textual information is loaded (via XML), reducing bandwidth and increasing response times.
Some examples of websites which are considered "Web 2.0":

Reply:google it, it may be so secret that it's unknown at this point.
Reply:Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. The term became popular following the first O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004.[1][2] Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use the web. According to Tim O'Reilly, "Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform."
I guess they are just illustrating that they are apart of the whole second gen web portals.
